The Rock House

This family house in the Habrový Creek floodplain is tightly bordered to the north by a dramatic rocky slope. The primary focus of the design is to bring light into the living quarters, which were previously completely closed off from the cliff face. By removing an original annex containing the staircase, a new interstitial space—an English courtyard—is created between the house and the slope, funneling northern daylight into the interior. A new internal staircase with an open-well hall visually connects the living floor with the attic and the entire garden, allowing the raw character of the rock to permeate the interior through generous glazing. A new direct access to the terraced garden has been designed from the attic level, creating a rear terrace that provides the family with maximum privacy while being in close contact with nature.
